Our 8 Favorite Hybrids for 2021
Hybrids have thankfully evolved past the strange pointed designs and look like the cars we’re used to driving. But now they’re more efficient and easier to live with than ever before. These are our picks for 2021.
Honda Insight
The Insight is our absolute favorite hybrid of the year. It offers excellent fuel economy while being discreet about its hybrid status. It’s spacious, quick, has refreshing and well-proportioned styling, and a clean cabin design. It returns a combined 48 – 52mpg.
Honda Accord Hybrid
This is an excellent hybrid sedan. It has sleek styling, many safety features, excellent fuel economy, and satisfying performance. It’s a family sedan that does everything well. It returns a combined 48mpg.
Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
Take all the best parts of the standard Sonata, like the smooth ride, a long list of standard features and add excellent fuel economy to it and you get the Sonata hybrid. This is a solid hybrid sedan. It returns a combined 47 – 52mpg.
Ford Escape
This is one of the few small SUVs that are available as a hybrid. Thankfully, the Escape retains most of its best features along with the evolution to a hybrid powertrain. It has excellent text, a spacious cabin, and is smooth and easy-to-drive. It returns 40 – 41mpg.
Honda CR-V Hybrid
Take all the features of the standard CR-V that makes it an excellent compact SUV and add an extra dose of efficiency. That’s the CR-V hybrid. It returns 38mpg.
Toyota Highlander Hybrid
Like others, the Highlander takes the conventional strengths of its conventional version and adds excellent fuel economy to it. It’s quick and agile, has the same spacious interiors, and now returns a combined 35 – 36mpg.
Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid
The Pacifica retains the seven seats but loses the cool “Stow ‘n Go” second-row. It, however, gains excellent fuel economy in the process. There’s no other three-row plug-in hybrid that transports so many people in such comfort while returning a combined 30mpg.
Toyota RAV4 Prime
This small, comfortable SUV delivers really well on fuel economy and power in its PHEV avatar. It can travel 42 miles on electric power alone. Press the throttle, and its acceleration will even leave some powerful cars very surprised.
